About Julie
Julie Edlund is a mission-driven CEO and social entrepreneur with more than 30 years of experience leading and transforming nonprofit organizations—most of that time dedicated to advancing opportunities for people with disabilities. Since becoming CEO of Life Unlimited in 2014, she has guided the organization through an extraordinary era of growth, including four successful mergers, a 517% expansion in services, and a more than twofold increase in wages for frontline caregivers.
Under her leadership, Life Unlimited has become a regional leader for innovation and inclusion, expanding housing, employment, day services, and community living supports across the Kansas City metro. Most recently, she spearheaded The Trails Neighborhood—a groundbreaking 46-acre inclusive development that will provide 39 affordable, accessible homes for people with disabilities. This bold initiative directly addresses the region’s housing crisis while modeling a community-centered solution.
Julie’s leadership is defined by both strategic vision and compassion. She is known for building strong organizational cultures where every voice is valued, excellence is expected, and belonging is real. Whether mentoring rising leaders, supporting team members, or championing policy change, she leads with authenticity, resilience, and heart.
Prior to Life Unlimited, Julie served as Executive Director of Special Kids and Families and founded Youth Visions in Memphis, Tennessee. She began her career as a college volunteer at the Learning Disabilities Association of Tennessee and United Cerebral Palsy–Life Center.
